Description

Seeking to educate collectors and democratize the art market via overseeing and writing the first Code of Ethics that circumscribes the responsibilities of all professional dealers. New York-based gallerist and art dealer Roland co-founded Luhring Augustine Gallery with Lawrence R. Luhring in 1985. His gallery focuses on the representation of a group of established international contemporary artists, has organized over 200 exhibitions and placed works of art in all the major museums and private collections of Europe and America. A passionate piano player who grew up surrounded by music, Roland graduated from the School of Business at Georgetown University and pursued his studies in art (print-making) and music (jazz piano) at the State University of New York. Having devoted himself to social engagement, Roland is a trustee of Bard College, with a particular engagement in both the Centre for Curatorial Studies (CCS) and the Bard Prison Initiative (BPI), its mission being to bring liberal arts education into the prison system in the state of New York. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
