Description

A Turkish pro-Kurdish party says Ankara’s airstrike against Kurdistan Workers Party's positions in northern Iraq has claimed the lives of civilians, a charge that the Turkish army denies. Peoples' Democratic Party, HDP, says ten civilians, including a pregnant woman and children, were killed in a pre-dawn strike by Turkish warplanes on the village of Zarkel on Saturday. The HDP statement adds that fifteen people have also been wounded. In response, the Turkish army says it has reviewed the attack and found out that its jets have pounded a PKK camp on Qandil Mountain, not a nearby village. On Saturday, the Turkish foreign ministry pledged to investigate the Kurds' claim of civilian fatalities. It also accused PKK militants of using civilians as human shields.
