music: Mike Majkowski - double bass, 'A' piece 25.04.11 https://soundcloud.com/mikemajkowski/solo-a-piece-25-04-11 About the global reverberation of the Ōtsu incident: a failed assassination attempt on Nicholas Alexandrovich, Tsarewitch of Russia (later Emperor Nicholas II of Russia) on 11 May 1891 by one of the policemen - Sanzo Tsuda - escorting the Tsarewitch. In 1905, the German writer Max Dauthendey visited Japan - just half a year after the end of the Russo-Japanese War in 1904- as part of a journey around the world. He used the incident in one of his stories. Dauthendey was born in Würzburg, which is one of the sister cities of Otsu. Hanne Darboven used his book describing the journey in the form of an epic poem as main reference for the visual form of her 'Requiem' . Supported by Dutch Fonds for the Visual Arts.
