Description

The senior class consists of 206 students. Twenty five of those seniors are part of our Low Incidence Diverse Learners program. The Case Manager determined that these students will continue their education at King next year. Because of this, we will never show 100% FAFSA completion on external metrics. However, we set an internal goal of 100% of the 181 graduating seniors completing the FAFSA. The Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP) was suspended in February. Our deadline was January 31. We opened up the school over Winter Break. Thirty students submitted on January 2 with our assistance. We split up the students to ensure their FAFSAs were submitted. Students came in during lunch and after school. We helped the remaining students submit by the deadline. For accuracy, students had their Student Aid Report reviewed and made a student eligible to win a prom ticket. Tickets were raffled off at 70, 80, 90 and 98% internal completion rates. We had a successful FAFSA season. King College Prep had the opportunity to meet First Lady Michelle Obama under unfortunate circumstances when one of our students, Hadiya Pendleton, was fatally shot. The First Lady attended the funeral and met many of the current seniors. We are grateful for her support during this difficult time. This year, Hadiya would have graduated. If our video is chosen, First Lady Obama’s address will serve as a bittersweet tribute to Hadiya’s life and leave a lasting impact on the lives of the seniors as they take the next step in their journey.
