Description

This American Life from WBEZ Chicago is the radio show that has won all the prestigious awards that are out there. A new show is aired weekly, and it is broadcasted on over 500 radio stations as well as downloaded at least a million times. Brian Reed, one of the program's talented producers, talks about their work with what many consider the world's best radio program. Many of us walk around with a free This American Life app on our phones and feel it simply makes reasonable sense when we listen to a new episode. Reasonable in This American Life context means that we are exposed to something entertaining, surprising, funny, serious, clear, poignant, absurd, and almost always touching. So be aware of your surroundings when you listen to the shows. People might get concerned when you are sitting there on the bus with your ear plugs, tears streaming down your face. The producers of This American Life have a deep and fundamental interest in people and all that we do, the good and the bad. There is a huge range of topics, one week the show can be about car dealers, next week about how He met Her, and in the third week you will hear the harrowing story of how the military in Guatemala tortured, raped, and eventually massacred an entire village. The last story referred to was produced by Brian Reed. How is it to work with this type of investigative journalism over the radio? How do you avoid losing focus, dropping the big picture, and engage the listeners without scaring them away? Enjoy an insight into how one of the world's best radio programs is created.
