World Hepatitis Day in Vietnam: National campaign to raise awareness of chronic hepatitis C

Description

Vietnam has one of the highest rates of Hepatitis C infection. Lack of awareness about the prevalence of the virus, and about the proper methods for screening, controlling, and treating the disease contributes to continued transmission and missed opportunities for early diagnosis and potential cure. Nearly 90% of those infected become chronic carriers with a high risk of death. On the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, observed on 28 July each year, Roche together with the National Tropical Disease Hospitals and over 500 specialists in the field, along with support from the WHO, launched several initiatives to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, and to call for access to testing and treatment, better prevention programs and governments action. The 2014 campaign featured a call to action of “Get tested and treated now!” to further drive changes in attitude and behaviour among infected patients, high-risk groups who may unknowingly be infected, and the general public.
