Description

An unreleased, rare Mazzy Star song. I've only heard one other version of it, Mazzy Star at Copenhagen 2000 (upped to YT previously). The song may have been originally slated to be included on Mazzy's 1996 album as its lyrics contain the mysterious line "Among my swan," which is the title of the '96 album "Among My Swan." Thanks go to original taper Scott Simpson for kindly sharing an audio file of this CBGB show taken from his tape master. Scott recorded a number of excellent Mazzy Star shows including two I've upped to YT in their entirety, Woody's '90, & Supper Club, '96. About the CBGB show this recording of "It Speaks Of Distance" is from, he recalls "The CB's show was done entirely with the lights down and them facing away from the stage." I may upload the whole CBGB show to YT at some point, but anyone interested can DL an audio file of the whole show in FLAC format here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/6bl2fdu2oe17/n/Mazzy_Star_-_1994-03-17_CBGB_N.Y.C.zip\ where I upped it. I also maintain an extensive Mazzy Star, Hope, & related boots list with DL links in this fan site forum: http://forums.mazzystar.tk/ in the section "Bootleg List" under my site name there "Hermesacat". Unfortunately, a few ISPs block domain names with the .tk suffix, but as far as I know most don't. IT SPEAKS OF DISTANCE [or IT SPEAKS THE DISTANCE] (attempted lyrics transcription): Behind my life Is different colours They go away And come back to you It's just no where it can be found It's just with me Come on take it The touch of your hand It speaks of distance It speaks of distance In your heart Come on There's no question of why Behind my life There's a silent storm It brings a vision Into your mind It's in between On the darkened hearts My heart it screams For nothing you have to see Come on There's no question of why There's no question of why It's in between On the darkened hearts Behind the unknown But there's no chance He has his hand Among my swan Keep it there Now that you've gone And so often My eyes long And so often My eyes long Beat your door To black and blue He took his words His solitude ************************ It's hard to know if the song's title shown here is its actual title. "It Speaks The Distance" is the title I've seen on the Copenhagen 2000 tracks listing, & on a boots list at (sadly) defunct fan site mazzystar.nu. But it may be just a tentative title placed on it by boots tapers. I've changed it slightly to "It Speaks Of Distance" as that's the line Hope sings. There's no "the" sung. The lyrics are slightly different in this '94 version compared to the 2000 version, although most lines are identical.
