The Buddha is a two part documentary from Emmy Award-winning filmmaker David Grubin, narrated by Richard Gere. The story of Siddhartha is the spiritual journey of the prince and sage who attained enlightenment 2,500 years ago and spent the remainder of his life as the Buddha, teaching others what he had learned. It is a journey especially relevant to our own bewildering times of violent change and spiritual confusion. The series is woven through with animation and draws upon paintings and sculptures by some of the world's greatest artists, as well as fragments of the Buddha's world still present in India today. It also includes many insights into the ancient narrative by contemporary Buddhists, including Pulitzer Prize winning poet W.S. Merwin and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
