Sit: Boy Girl Boy Girl (in performance at) The Duplex Nursing Home 1982 In 1982, when Half Japanese members Jad Fair, David Fair and Mark Jickling, calling themselves Sit: Boy Girl Boy Girl, climbed onto the front porch of the Duplex Planet Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs, New York, they knew they were making history. In the mind of David Fair, there was always a "Battle of The Bands" going on, and he knew that nursing home audiences were the last frontier. Johnny Cash's Live at Folsom Prison, The Cramps' Live at Napa State Mental Hospital and Crime's Live at San Quentin come to mind -- all scorching, groundbreaking moments in and of themselves. But these institutional concerts seem quaint by comparison once you experience what Sit: Boy Girl Boy Girl delivered on that balmy summer day. Armed only with a colorfully hand-painted acoustic guitar with "Jad" scrawled on it, an electric guitar and a snare drum with a towel draped over it, the Brothers Fair and Jickling played with a ferocity, generosity of spirit and message of love that touched the souls of these advanced-age retirees. We should all be so lucky to have this caliber of entertainment visited upon us to shuffle off this mortal coil on those final laps before we find our way home. -- Jeff Feuerzeig, Director, The Devil and Daniel Johnston and Half Japanese: The Band That Would Be King WWW.THICKSYRUPRECORDS.COM
