African Fashion includes everything from clothes, cloth, hair, make-up and also - tattoos! We head down to one of the biggest markets in Nigeria where one roadside woman is painting beautiful Henna tattoos on customers. "It's human fashion - it's Hausa tradition and everyone is doing it now because its very fine," explains Mrs Afolabi, the tattoo artist who has worked in Oshodi market for two years. She uses a particular dark ink called Henna - made from the crushed leaves of the Henna plant, the dark ink (which turns from orange to dark red) has been used for centuries to paint body art in various cultures around the world. In Nigeria this body tattoo originates from the northern Hausa community, where it is called "Lalle" or "Lali" - and on their marriage day, Hausa brides can often have the Africa Fashion artwork tattooed all over their body. "I just like it because when I put it - it's our natural tattoo... I do it every two weeks," says Mrs Fatima, a regular customer to Afolabi's roadside African Fashion roadside boutique. The tattoo takes about five minutes to paint from a variety of inks and small brushes - and Mrs Afolabi claims, it can stay up to three months on the skin. Depending on the size and intricacy of the fashion pattern desired, prices can range from 50 Naira to 500 Naira (about $3).
