Description

http://CopBlock.org/Pivothead The police do not police themselves. People are still being wronged despite the introduction of dash-mounted cameras, and the adoption of police-worn body cams is no different. To ensure a record of the truth of police interactions exists, and is accessible, we each need to film. That's why we're happy to announce the Accountability Through Transparency Video Contest - the winner of which will receive a pair of Pivothead Sunglasses! By documenting and publishing police encounters - both good and bad - transparency and common sense have a better chance of prevailing while empowering others to exercise their rights and hold public servants accountable for their actions. It is important to stand against injustice at every iteration, no matter how slight (a police employee parking in a "no parking" zone). Failure to do that establishes a new norm, and the rights-violations become more frequent and severe (the brutal killing of someone for not obeying an arbitrary command). Who watches the self-proclaimed watchers involved with the coercive monopoly called policing? We each do, and together, we are the network that is bringing positive change and a better reality. CONTEST DETAILS 1) Document (with a camera) a police employee exhibiting double standards or the standards we expect them to live up to. This could be done while on foot, during a vehicle stop, while submitting an Open Records request, etc. 2) Upload your video to your Youtube channel 3) Fill out the form below by the deadline of midnight EST May 23, 2014 4) The winner, chosen by contest sponsors, will be notified by email and the Pivothead sunglasses will be shipped once a mailing address is received. 5) Video content received may be shared to any of the sponsor sites. Your email - just to be explicit - will not be publicly shared. CONTEST SPONSORS Check Point USA is dedicated to confronting roadblocks to freedom wherever they may arise.
