Description

In Syria, insurgent groups have made gains in a joint offensive on a government bastion. The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has reported that the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front and other groups have seized four checkpoints around Jisr al-Shughour, in Idlib province. Clashes are still ongoing between government troops and the insurgents groups. At least 60 Syrian forces including commanders have been killed. However, the government still controls areas in the east of Idlib province. Also, the Nusra Front and the ISIL terrorist group have been battling against Syrian government forces at the Yarmouk camp for Palestinian refugees in Damascus for nearly a month. More than 220-thousand people have been killed since the Syrian conflict began in 2011.
