Description

On May 3-4, 2012, leaders from around the world convened to address the growing issue of sex trafficking and prostitution. More than 250 criminal justice professionals, survivors, NGO leaders, philanthropists, government officials and other experts pooled their insights in order to move closer to the goal of eradicating commercial sexual exploitation in the US and abroad. This short video amplifies a collective voice calling for the elimination of the demand for purchased sex. Featuring collaborative messages from across sectors, this piece captures the essence of Arresting Demand: A National Colloquium 2012. "As Hunt Alternatives Fund's mission states, we are 'provoking change...for good.' We don't seek to disrupt the status quo for its own sake, but because we know that to ensure the dignity of all human beings, we must listen, we must hear, we must empathize." -- Lina Nealon, Director of Policy and Outreach of Demand Abolition, a program of Hunt Alternatives Fund Featuring (in order of appearance): Vednita Carter, Breaking Free; Abigail Kuzma, Consumer Protection Division; Ayanna Pressley, Boston City Council; Swanee Hunt, Hunt Alternatives Fund; Mary Lou Leary, US Department of State; Tom Dart, Cook County Sheriff; Pete Holmes, Seattle City Attorney; Carolyn Maloney, US Congress; Ryan Long, Seattle Police Department; Simon Haggstrom, Stockholm Police Department; Michael Shively, Abt.
