Oscar trying to teach Baby Ogden to swim

Description

You may have seen the videos where the mother North American River Otter drags her baby into the water to teach it how to swim. Well evidently, Oscar saw the same videos. Haha. River otters aren't born knowing how to swim, and Oscar, our 3 year-old permanent resident education ambassador, has taken it upon himself to teach orphan Ogden. Watch how gentle he is. He calls to him, gently tries to pull him in, and then gets a little creative, and flips him in. All in all, it shows the gentleness of these amazing creatures. We have watched in absolute awe as Oscar has taken on such a loving, gentle and nurturing role with baby Ogden who lost his family in the recent Kentucky floods. Note: All interactions are monitored by trained caregivers to ensure Ogden's safety during these brief introduction encounters. He is still too young to live in the outdoor habitats full time. Special thanks to volunteer Ryan Moloney for the video. Kentucky Wildlife Center
