Description

The Queen has joked that it took someone of Irish descent to get her to jump from a helicopter, recalling her part in the London 2012 Opening Ceremony. Speaking at a state banquet for Irish President Michael D Higgins, she said that it was Irishman Danny Boyle who encouraged her to 'jump' from a helicopter to mark her arrival at the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in 2012. Film director Danny Boyle devised the ceremony, which saw the queen play herself in a short film at Buckingham Palace before a stunt actor jumped out of a helicopter, landing at the Olympic Stadium. She also said the games helped show the links between Ireland and Britain, as companies from both helped build the stadiums and run the games.
