This niche market is only getting 10% of all marketing dollars. This is a wakeup call to all online marketers and marketing people in general! This niche can outspend the GNP of several major nations. Have you guessed yet? The most underutilized niche market not highly targeted by internet marketers is BABY BOOMERS! So you say, baby boomers are not tech savy! Most of them don’t even have a cell phone. Let me address this fallacy. First, Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, and Steve Jobs are all part of the baby boomer generation. Baby boomers 85% of them own a smart phone. Baby boomers buy two thirds of new computers. They spend 7 billion dollars shopping online. Ignoring this niche is not smart. I have a mentor that likes to focus mostly between the ages of 26-45. He believes older people need more hand holding. FYI the internet is the most important information boomers use when they make major purchasing decision. Baby booms spend 19 hours a week online. When they learn something that they think is of value, they share it with their friends. There are 111 million people who are 50 plus and it will grow by 16 million. Boomers own a majority of US financial assets over 63%. They outspend the younger adult by 2:1. Their networth is 3x greater than that of a younger generation. If your goal is to target a niche that has more money, the boomers are that niche! They contribute to 50% of all consumer expenditures. Over 30 million consumers 50 years and older are shopping online. Facebook users comprise 43% boomers; twitter has 48% boomers. Fifty three percent of boomers use pinterest. Sixty six percent of people over 50 make purchases from online retailers. It makes sense if their children live out of state and they can go on Amazon or other sites and have gifts sent to them. They know that the best way to get an answer from their children is to text them. If they want to keep in touch with out of state grandchildren and children, they use skype. The incentive to learn more technology is to stay connected to the people they love. Have I convinced why it is not a smart move to ignore baby boomers. If they like what you have to offer, and you are constantly delivering value; they are more likely to share it with others. They have the money. They also have a great work ethic and the willingness to learn new things. Rethink the most underutilized niche market not targeted by online marketers. You are missing a big piece of the pie!
