Description

Rival Palestinian factions Fatah, headed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and based in the West Bank, and Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, have agreed to form a unity government, a Fatah official said. A Fatah-Hamas unity government formed in 2006 collapsed a year later after a violent clash between their forces erupted in Gaza. Several other reunification agreements since then have failed to materialize because of disputes over the details and implementation.
