Description

In this message Pastor John Van Sloten is going to be speaking on the disintegrating power of lying. Studies show people lie up to 200 times a day! God says don't lie. Is there a way to lie less? “A study by Dr. Robert Feldman showed that within 10 minutes of meeting a new person, 60% of people will tell at least one lie. (Applied Social Psychology, 6/2002) The average number of lies a person will tell in that first ten minutes is three. Most people in the study didn’t believe the results, but when the video-taped sessions were shown back to them they were stunned to see they had indeed lied and in many cases they’d lied repeatedly! The average American tells approximately 200 lies per day. (Gerald Jellison, USC).” How to Spot a Liar, Dr. Larry Helms, June 6, 2006 Lecture “The characteristic mark of the lie is duplicity, a fissure between thought and utterance that is clearly evident to the speaker as she speaks” Augustine’s thought in “Lying: an Augustinian Theology of Duplicity, Paul J. Griffiths p25 "“Beware of your friends; do not trust anyone in your clan. For every one of them is a deceiver, and every friend a slanderer. Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning. You live in the midst of deception; in their deceit they refuse to acknowledge me,” declares the Lord.” God’s thoughts via the prophet Jeremiah 9:4-6, NIV “Teach me, O LORD, your way that I might walk in your truth; Unify my heart, that I might fear your name.” Psalm 86:11 (trans. From Hebrew by Rachel Krohn) “Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” Jesus in Matthew 5:37 Ten Commandment series images by Sarah Van Sloten http://www.sarahvansloten.com/
