We all know how difficult it is to defend against tall assailants. They have a longer reach and often they also outweigh their opponents, thus have more power. A great strategy to use against a taller attacker is to throw low line kicks to prevent him from coming closer. Also, by throwing low line kicks, you can strike up high immediately after. That will confuse your attacker and will give you an opening to follow up with other strikes to finish the fight. Using low kicks directly into the knee of your attacker will demotivate him on continuing his attack. When kicking, aim for the knees, shins as well as the groin if you see an opening. Your kicks must be quick and precise. You can practice launching them form a passive and dynamic stance. Make sure to also practice in a scenario format with your training partner; this will be helpful with your self-defense training. You can also practice your kicks in a drill format with your partner trying to punch with boxing gloves. This will not only practice your defensive techniques and your footwork but your kicking abilities as well. Don’t forget to wear a headgear when practicing this type of drill.
