(Leedon EP316 Biography : Formed in 1959 in Sydney, the group was originally called The 4 Tops. The quartet of seventeen-year-olds took their inspiration from the numerous American vocal harmony groups around at the time. When one of the group left to join the Air Force, the remaining members decided to continue on as a trio and consequently they changed their name to The Crescents. On 7th March 1959 they made their debut television appearance on Six O'Clock Rock and it didn't take long for them to become regulars on the show. Their success prompted Johnny O'Keefe to sign them to a recording deal with the Leedon Records label. Their debut single release in December proved reasonably successful and this led to appearances on the television shows Bandstand and Teen Time. February 1960 saw the release of their second single Mr Blue, which reached the Sydney Top 10. When their lead vocalist left to replace the Delltones lead vocalist who had been killed in a car accident, it signalled the beginning of the demise of the group.
