Description

The Conqueror is the sixth track on The Magic Carpets album, Guided Naffi Missile. The Magic Carpets were a psychedelic punk pop band based in Liverpool, Merseyside, UK during Summer 1985. The founder member was singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist Andy Holland who advertised for other musicians in The Liverpool Echo and eventually got together with two brothers, Paul and Tony Goulden (lead guitarist and drummer) and Paul Kelly (previously of Mammath) on bass-guitar. The foursome quickly got enough material together to record a five-track demo at Vulcan Studios and were signed to the Probe Plus records, home of Half Man Half Biscuit. The label’s proprietor was and still is Geoff Davies, who was at that time collaborating with fellow record producer and ex-Deaf School member, Sam Davies aka Eric Shark. Over the ensuing months The Magic Carpets had written enough material to record an album and so Probe Plus took the band to Naffi Universal Studios in Winwick, Warrington, Cheshire. The recordings were engineered by Sir Freddie Viadukt. The album was released in November 1986.
