'The Monkey' mixes thoroughly experimental music and contemporary dance in a review of the greek tragedy, to reflect on the concept 'city' ("City: it is the name given to a very serious nervous disorder", said the argentinian sociologist Ezequiel Martínez Estrada). If in the greek tragedy the concept 'polis' was inevitable to understand the classic hero, today the city is also essential to study the characteristics of the contemporary human being: someone with the relentless need to keep up the common requirement to meet the demands of a society which contains and constrains them. 'The Monkey' is the first part of the trilogy 'News from Silence', a rapprochement to madness in different stages: I, individual madness; II, collective madness; III: the current social structure. In this first part, a contemporary tragic hero faces an apparently daily routine which will end up to be his last night. He does not speak, just move to the rhythm of his thought. The word rests in two choirs who give voice to his brain and do the typical activities of each hemisphere, right and left. The hero of 'The Monkey' is lost in a deaf world, and he has renounced the word as a way of action; hoping for the necessary point of clarity to find a tiny crack in a reality as hostile as unbearable. 'News from silence. The Monkey' begins with a short story written in Dharamsala (India) in June 2010, when Eva Guillamón was invited by some indian theater companies to organize a workshop. In 2011 the play reached the final in The Houston Contemporary Opera Festival. In April 2012 it was premiered in NY, in collaboration with the New York University.
