This video highlights TentEd's work in supporting the education of displaced children in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Nearly 130 refugee families who have been victimized by the vicious conflict throughout northern Iraq are now living in Mar Elia Church in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The head priest at the church, Father Douglas Bazi, has transformed the courtyard Mar Elia into a vibrant community committed to education, tolerance, and compassion. Working closely with Father Douglas and his staff, TentEd equipped the camp library with furniture and hundreds of books, distributed backpacks and classroom supplies to 75 students, and provided recreational materials so children have a safe place to play. Special thanks to multimedia journalist Romina Peñate (@rominapenate) for her production of this video. TentEd is an initiative of the Education for Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC), an IRS registered nonpartisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Founded in 1998 by U.S. veterans and human rights activists, EPIC has a 15-year track record of innovative programming and passionate advocacy supporting peace-building efforts in Iraq and engaging the U.S. government and the American public on behalf of that goal.
