NASCAR Broadcast Comparison: 1994 vs. 2013 All-Star Open

Description

This is a side-by-side (or top-to-bottom) comparison of two broadcasts of what is today the Sprint Showdown, the qualifier for the NASCAR All-Star Race. On the top is TNN's broadcast of the 1994 race and the bottom is last week's broadcast on SPEED. Mike Joy was the head play-by-play announcer for both races. The clips are synced up so the green flag comes out at the same time in both races. I made this video because I want to pinpoint whether fans' dissatisfaction with today's NASCAR is because of the quality of the racing, the production of the broadcasts, some combination of the two, or something else entirely. So, after watching this, I'd like to hear your thoughts. For example, when comparing the two, notice these four things: (1) How easy or difficult it is to see what's happening on-track, (2) How soon each broadcast interrupts the live feed with a full-screen replay, (3) How many different drivers are featured, (4) How many unnecessary shots / graphics are used. In order to fit both videos on the screen, I cropped out the leaderboard crawl from the 2013 clip. Otherwise, both clips are completely unedited.
