Description

Helena Bastos (director-president of the NGO Viramundo) and I (Flavio Wittlin, General Secretary) were in Manchester during the demonstrations of June in Brazil. We both were attending an international meeting -- Visions of a Globalized World: Collaborative Visual Ethnography, Gender, and Health -- invited by Dr. Denise L. Spitzer (University of Ottawa) and Vincent O'Brien (Visiting Professor, Manchester Metropolitan University). The speech presented in this video does represent JUST A PERSONAL OPINION about some past and current events in my country. Its content was shared with people from England, Ireland, Burundi, Philippines, El Salvador, Canada,The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. After uploading, this will be known also by other folks in USA, Portugal, South Africa, Argentina, Italy, Peru and Chile. Please feel free to spread this video with everyone who is committed with the deepening of democracy around the world. Brazil is becoming a worldwide player and the enemies of our democracy are trying to destroy the social advances of the last decade to re-colonize the country. Your solidarity is an important part of our resistance. On the other hand -- I know it! -- it depends on our own efforts, fights and organization. This video represents an attempt to publicize the latter ones.
