Description

Known as the Dynasty, Yao Ming was much more than an All-Star center in the NBA. The 7-6, 310-pound native of China was the pride of a nation. When the Houston Rockets selected Yao with the first overall pick in the 2002 Draft, there were still questions of how he would fare against the world's best competition every night. Yao quickly erased all doubts, averaging 13.5 points, 8.2 boards, 1.8 blocks and earning a spot on the All-Rookie First Team. Across his career, Yao was nothing but efficient, easily surpassing a 20 PER each season. A series of foot and ankle injuries forced him to miss 250 games in his last six seasons, and ultimately forced him to retire in July 2011. But he'll be known for his grace as a human being and dominance on the court—a combination that helped him get elected to the Hall of Fame in 2016.
