Description

This is the HD version of the documentary Chase in Space: Athens to Sparta. What's with the name? Well, the mission was a project of the Chase Street Elementary School's Engineering Club and STEM Education program. We wanted to learn about the atmosphere and see what space really looked like. The mission utilized a large weather balloon, HD video cameras, a data recorder (to record scientific data for analysis in class), and GPS tracker. We launched on Tuesday, May 14th from Athens, GA. The rig landed a little over 2.5 hrs later, landing near Sparta, GA in a swamp. The recovery took 2 separate tries and over 15 hours. Our rig made it to the "edge of space" (which is what we expected) - almost 97,000 ft (29,565.6 m). The FAA advised us on rules and regulations to ensure the safety of air traffic. Thanks for watching!
