Description

Flies caught on high-speed camera reveal that banked turns are the key to their speedy evasive maneuvers. The findings suggest fruit flies have specialized sensory-motor circuits connecting their nervous systems and muscles that help them avoid swinging fly swatters! http://scim.ag/1gcEzS3 CREDIT: Science/F. T. Muijers et al. Great question! There are lots of reasons. They're very low maintenance and easy to care for. They're particularly great for genetics studies because they share 75% of the genes that cause disease with humans, and researchers can evolve lots of generations of flies in a very short period of time. There's also a wealth of knowledge on fruit flies - we understand their genome very well and know how to assess their cardiovascular and neurological systems, making them relatively easy to study. interesting... I am a frog, and I approve if this study. . Thats not a fly. It is an eagle :)
