Description
Africa is always looking to boost her internal and external trade. Domestically, intra-Africa trade is slowly driving up the figures. But Africa's real trade problems lie abroad. Tariff and non-tariff barriers are still effectively being used to limit Africa's access to lucrative markets. So the change of guard at WTO is of particular significance to the continent. But will the election of Brazilian Roberto Azevedo as the WTO Director-General signal a change in policy towards Africa? Or will it just be business as usual? Our guests this week are Ambassador, Nelson Ndirangu, the Director, Economics and External Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kenya. Also on the show is Mr Oduor Ong'wen, the Country Director, SEATINI, an initiative to strengthen Africa's capacity to play a more effective role in the emerging global trading system. SEATINI focuses on the WTO and how Africa relates with it.
