PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETT Empire Saints were formed in 2008 by brother's fiachra & Uisneagh Treacy. Shortly after, long time friend Noel Healy, drummer & co songwriter joined the Saints. The one thing in common was to write and play music that had a real meaning and purpose. Locking themselves away in the studio and various rehearsal spaces for 10 months the songs and a sound began to take shape, a life of its own even. Various influences can be heard in the music, from Early U2, David Bowie, Joy division to The Police and The Band. With the line up complete Empire Saints then started to rehearse the material with more music and songs starting to take shape also. Fiachra: 'ideas just keep coming and all of us were really into what was happening. It was very important that if all four of us were not feeling it, then we moved on to something else. It was slow and painful sometimes but we feel we got the best out of ourselves by being that hard on ourselves'. Demos of 18 songs were recorded by the band themselves and after hearing the tracks a very excited and excellent Dublin Producer/engineer Gareth Mannix recorded 3 tracks 'The Drowning', 'Eventually' and 'Float on' in August '09 at both Gareth's house and Sun studios. The resulting recordings really capture the performance and energy of the band. Empire Saints have headlined gigs in some very prestigious venues even at this short time in their career including the Sugar Club in Dublin and with an appearance scheduled in the Summer in Whelans Dublin and The Hope and Anchor in London. They have also been shortlisted in Hotpress's "London Calling" competition with the top prize of playing in front of 20,000 people in Trafalgar Square at the St. Patricks festival on Sunday 14th March.
