Description

Two Japanese companies will build two solar power plants that will float on the surfaces of two reservoirs in Hyogo Prefecture, in western Japan. The project is a joint effort between Kyocera Corporation and Century Tokyo Leasing Corporation. The two plants will generate 2.9 megawatts of electricity in total. According to Kyocera’s website, construction on the plants will begin this month, and the plants are expected to start generating power in April. Kyocera says that water from the reservoirs will cool the solar panels, which will help them generate more power than solar panels installed on the ground or on the roofs of buildings. The company says the plants will also reduce the evaporation rate of water in the reservoirs and help limit algae growth.
