Description

The fighting erupted late on Monday after forces loyal to renegade general Khalifa Haftar attacked positions of militiamen from the so-called Benghazi Revolutionary Shura Council. The militiamen responded with artillery to Haftar’s forces, who were reportedly backed by fighter jets. The hours-long clashes took place around the Benghazi’s Benina airport. This, while the capital Tripoli has fallen to militants from ‘Fajr Libya' alliance. Libya’s caretaker government has announced that most ministries and state-run institutions are now out of its control.
