Description

The Third Interdisciplinary Symposium for Emerging Scholars on India China Studies is part of the India China Institute's (http://indiachinainstitute.org) continuing commitment to build a community of scholars who are engaged in research that focuses on new and innovative approaches to understanding India-China relations. For nine years, the India China Institute has provided a space for the establishment and strengthening of scholarly networks for emerging scholars of India and China who wish to share their research and explore opportunities for advancing individual and collaborative scholarship. The Emerging Scholars program also draws on The New School's (http://www.newschool.edu) tradition of fostering horizontal and vertical knowledge sharing across disciplines and amongst scholars in different stages of their careers. India China Conversations: Third Interdisciplinary Symposium for Emerging Scholars on India China Studies Panel Discussion - Re-envisioning India China Studies: Moderator: Ashok Gurung, Senior Director of India China Institute - Tansen Sen, Associate Professor of Baruch College, The City University of New York - Alka Acharya, Director, Institute of Chinese Studies, India - Liu Jian, Senior Professor, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Following the symposiums held in China and India in November 2013, this symposium is the third part of a three-part symposium series. Seven presenters selected from the three countries for this symposium will share their work and participate in multi-disciplinary investigation and deliberation with distinguished scholars. When discussing the work of each of the presenters, we hope to identify relevant methodological and substantive questions, and where possible answers, through a productive confrontation of diverse disciplinary perspectives. We hope that the symposium will provide a milestone in the intellectual definition and institutional development of the field, enhance the sense of community within it, and help to foster more productive directions for teaching and scholarship. The Third Interdisciplinary Symposium for Emerging Scholars on India China Studies is in collaboration with the Centre for Policy Research, Horizon Research and Consultancy Group, the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Observer Research Foundation, Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, Yunnan University, and the University of Calcutta.
