Description

In May 2015, the very first visitors will enter the IceCave in Langjökull, a man-made cave that stretches deep underground. There, travellers will be able to view ice that has been forming over centuries. As visitors get further underground, the ice gets older and the colour changes from white to a magnificent, deep blue. Crevasses, stretching deep into the glacier, and sunlight penetrating the packed ice are among the natural wonders to be witnessed. The IceCave, parts of which might just as well be described as a series of tunnels and small and large caves, will stretch 200 – 300 metres into solid glacier-ice, at about 30 metres below the glacier’s surface.
