Description

Nove Mestro, Czech Republic Catharine Pendrel proved that her collarbone is fully knitted up from an early season fracture (eight weeks prior) by storming to second place at the UCI World Cup #3 in Czech republic. The technical course was not for the faint of pecs, and the roots and big hits tested Pendrel's upper body strength where she earned an A for effort. Both Katerina Nash (15th place) and Georgia Gould (21st place) remarked about the energetic crowds, who left their ears ringing. LUNA teammate Maghalie Rochette also made the trip far east for her first European World Cup tour, and finished 19th in the U-23 class. Catharine Pendrel gushed, "Today was great. I had a decent start and steadily worked my way through traffic to the front." "I love the World Cup here. There were so many people out cheering that you climbed to a roar of cheers and chainsaws! The course is also amazing. Beautiful single track where technical skill and fitness allow you to open gaps on both the up and down hills if you're firing on all cylinders." "I felt really strong and technically smooth and enjoyed being back in the game." Georgia Gmailed, "21st wasn't what I was hoping for, but I was riding really well on the downhill's, thanks to my super-awesome Orbea Oiz and Fox Dropper seat post! I even had a sweet pass on a rider who crashed on the rock drop. The Czech crowds were amazing and I even got to ride with Katerina a bit. They were going nuts!" "I didn't have the legs to ride with the best of them today, but I'm looking forward to racing against them again in Germany next week. Thanks Dusty, Waldek, and Julien from Orbea for the support out there." And Maghalie excitedly recounted: "For me it was also my first European U23 World Cup. I ended up 19th, I am not thrilled about the result, but I gave everything I had on which been not a perfect day for me. On the bright side, I didn't crash, my bike was going great, the course was a lot of fun and the team was awesome... Really, you should have seen the bottle hand ups from Waldek, Dusty and Julian from Orbea; legendary! Nothing less." Rochette also got to watch her teammates in action saying, "The day after the race, I saw the girls ripping it up on the course! It was great and super motivating to watch them ride. And the Czech supporters were going crazy so it was a lot of fun to be a part of all that ambiance! Now I look forward to the 4th round of the World Cup next week in Germany." 1 Pauline Ferrand Prevot* (Fra) 1:26:50 2 Catharine Pendrel (Can) 0:02:50 3 Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa (Nor) 0:03:30 4 Irina Kalentieva (Rus) 0:04:05 5 Jolanda Neff* (Swi) 0:04:36 15 Katerina Nash 0:07:33 21 Georgia Gould 0:08:22 Eliminator Czech Republic World Cup #3 Nove Mesto na Morave, Czech Republic (May 23, 2014) Two days before the cross country race, Katerina Nash finished 17th in the UCI Eliminator in front of hometown crowds, riding conservatively to save her energy for the big show on Sunday. Although the heats were only about a minute long, the highly intensive efforts tend to accumulate two days before the cross country, the day most riders have their legs elevated while snacking on healthy foods. The start was held at a stadium and featured log and rock jumps, rollers, small climb on road to trail in woods, try to find a draft on way back to long road sprint and was a real crowd pleaser. The Luna team plans to drive to Albstadt, Germany for XC round 4 on June 1st. - See more at: http://teamlunachix.com/proteam/blog_entry/catharine_pendrel_second_place_at_the_uci_world_cup_in_czech_republic/#sthash.Fb7Xfaxt.dpuf
