Description

Last Sunday we had an eye-opening conversation in our Sunday School class. A new family shared their experience becoming foster parents and the discussion led to one conclusion: The foster-care system in this country needs some help. Now, if you ARE a foster parent and you’re listening to this devotion, God bless you! Most likely you’re providing a stable Christian household for these impressionable children. But in our decaying society the need for dedicated foster parents is as big as it’s ever been. But the system is stressed. There are more children in need of immediate foster care than available parents and sometimes the system approves foster parents that shouldn’t be allowed to be foster parents. And those in the system don’t always get the support they need to care for these young children and end up paying for everything out of pocket. Proverbs 22:6 is a familiar scripture that reads, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Christian people, the children entering foster care are likely leaving abusive and dark places. They may have never known something as simple as a pat on the back or the feeling of just being loved and appreciated. We only get a small window to get this right. You don’t have to run out right now and apply as a foster parent, but the Lord laid this message on my heart for a reason. If this devotion speaks to you, pray hard and follow God.
