A contemporary Greek tragedy set around the investigation into the murder of a young girl, BLOOD is written by Bill Gallagher ('Conviction', 'Blackout') and stars Paul Bettany (Legion, The Da Vinci Code), Stephen Graham (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, This Is England), Brian Cox (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Red, The Bourne Supremacy) and Mark Strong (Kick Ass, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Green Lantern). Joe and Chrissie Fairburn (Paul Bettany and Stephen Graham) are both Police Detectives under pressure to live up to the reputation of their father, Lenny (Brian Cox), who for years ran the department and was a figurehead of the community. Once a bully to both his colleagues and sons, Lenny is now suffering from the early stages of dementia and is drifting from the brothers. Joe and Crissie's burning need to fill his shoes and do what they feel is expected of them, has terrible, unforeseen consequences. Soon they are investigating their own crime. But the fear of being caught by their friend and colleague Robert (Mark Strong) is nothing to the fractures this causes in the brothers' relationships and in their own minds. Chrissie, the younger brother, is consumed by his own conscience while Joe becomes delusional and terrified of what this might do to his beloved family; a family that his father raised him to protect at all costs. The film is produced by Neal Street Productions' Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Jarhead), Red Production Company's Nicola Shindler ('Bedlam', 'Queer as Folk') and Nick Laws (Fish Tank). Director - Nick Murphy Despite studying Performing Arts at university, Nick Murphy began his career in 1990 as a tape editor in documentaries and news & current affairs, primarily for the BBC. In 1995 he began directing television documentaries, becoming celebrated initially for his observational films. For Channel 4 and BBC he coved subjects such as paediatric medicine, the lives of orthodox Jewish women in London and the role of funerals in bereavement. The BAFTA nominated 'Edwardian Country House' in 2002 saw Nick's first collaboration with his long-time composer Daniel Pemberton. Specialist Factual projects followed - from brain science to the early history of figurative art - until in 2005 he was asked by the BBC to write and direct his first 'factual drama'; 'Chernobyl'. With this film, Nick chose to focus not on the mechanics of the nuclear catastrophe but on the tragic mental decline of the man charged with its investigation. Moreover he chose to cast British comedian Adrian Edmondson on the central role. It won widespread acclaim and having thought his drama days were long behind him, reminded Nick of where his heart really lay.
