Description

Patrimonito in the Republic of Korea: Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple and Youth Involvement Patrimonito World Heritage Adventures - By young people ... for young people Patrimonito means 'small heritage' in Spanish and the character represents a young heritage guardian. Patrimonito has been widely adopted as the international mascot of the World Heritage Education Programme. It was created in 1995 by a group of Spanish-speaking students during a workshop at the 1st World Heritage Youth Forum held in Bergen, Norway. The young students designed Patrimonito on the basis of the World Heritage Emblem which symbolizes the interdependence of cultural and natural sites: the central square is a form created by people and the circle represents nature, the two being intimately linked; the emblem is round like the world and at the same time a symbol of protection. In 2002 a cartoon series entitled "Patrimonito's World Heritage Adventures" was launched where Patrimonito introduces World Heritage sites, the threats they are facing and proposes solutions to preserve them. The cartoon series, available in CD-ROM and DVD format, is distributed globally to schools, youth organizations and at World Heritage youth events. The films are also accessible online at the UNESCO World Heritage Centre website: http://whc.unesco.org/en/patrimonito/ *Complete list of Patrimonito episodes: Episode 1, Patrimonito arrives in Cuba: La Havana Episode 2, Patrimonito in Norway: the Wooden Church of Unes Episode 3, Patrimonito in New Zealand: The Sub-Antarctic Islands Episode 4, Patrimonito in Ethiopia: Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela Episode 5, Patrimonito in the Russian Federation: Historic Monuments of Novgorod and Surroundings Episode 6, Patrimonito in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda: "The Virunga Mountains" Episode 7, Patrimonito in Australia: Climate Change and the Great Barrier Reef Episode 8, Patrimonito in Spain: Old Town of Avila Episode 9, Patrimonito in Peru: The Community of the City of Cuzco Episode 10, Patrimonito in Lebanon: Sustainable Development for the Site of Ouadi Qadisha and the Forest of the Cedars of God Episode 11, Patrimonito in the Republic of Korea: Seokguram Grotto and Bulguksa Temple and Youth Involvement Episode 12, Patrimonito in China: The Great Wall and Youth
