Asia Summit 2014 - Strengthening Asian Markets: Allocating Capital, Refining Policy

Description

Asia’s capital markets have bolstered their role in the global economy since the financial meltdown as the West turned its focus inward. Yet Asian markets are likely to maintain a home bias themselves while financial infrastructure is built and regional returns match or exceed those available elsewhere. There is plenty of capital in these markets—the question is how to effectively provide it to those who will use it most productively. Our panel will explore the forces driving the development of these markets and what policymakers can do to guide them. How can funding be channeled to turn microbusinesses into SMEs and SMEs into giants? Are the regulatory pieces in place to spur growth while keeping a vigilant eye on stability? How do the region’s mature and emerging capital markets interact? What are Asia’s central banks thinking? How are investors navigating risk, geopolitical and otherwise? Moderator: Christine Tan Speakers: David Bonderman, Piyush Gupta, Lim Chow Kiat, Michael Milken, Jonathan Nelson
