Description
*** INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AND WORKFLOW BELOW *** All was show in RAW, 1080x512, ISO 1250 and 2500. 5DM2 is not as good with noise as 5DM3. I applied noise reduction (25) in Camera RAW in most cases. I used a 400X Sandisk CF card 8Gb (60 Mb/sec). I was only available to record 1080x540 and sometimes 1080x720. The image is very nice and gradable. I tried to expose to the right at all times. Lens used: Samyang 35mm f/1.4 (Magic Lantern's RAW recorder crops the image though if you don't shoot 1080p) I just ordered a Komputerbay 1000x 128Gb card!!!! I also used a Kamerar Cinema Skater Dolly System. What the guys at ML did is just amazing!! The workflow is painful, as any other RAW workflow!!!! --- INSTALLING THE FIRMWARE --- ***** I AM NOT AN EXPERT, AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR CAMERA. PLEASE BE CAREFUL **** This is what I did: 1- Make sure you have the latest STABLE Magic Lantern firmware 2.3 for Canon 5D MK2 (note that you need Canon's firmware 2.1.2 installed and a Compact Flash card reader): LINK: http://www.magiclantern.fm/download NOTE: In case this is the first time you install ML, it is likely that your card is not bootable. The installation instructions in the downloaded zip will guide you through the process of making your card bootable. 2- Update ML's firmware 2.3 with the latest "nightly" compilation. May 15th's compilation worked for me. LINK: http://nanomad.magiclantern.fm/nightly/ NOTE: This is an update that is made MANUALLY by replacing the files and folders in your card's root directory. By manually, I mean that the firmware update is not done from the camera. 3- Now you have the latest firmware (alpha) and you can install the "raw rec" module, that allows RAW recording. I found it here LINK: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzDGCq2guBAgb2UtVE1SUy0yeTQ/edit In order install the module, place all files/folders in the root directory of your card, replacing when asked. 4- In order to activate the raw rec module in camera, go to the "M" under Magic Lantern's menu (the right-most menu item) And choose to load modules. Then, you will find the raw rec options under the movie menu. Choose resolutions wisely. If you have a 60 Mb/sg (x400) card, you may record 1880x540 with safety. Otherwise, you may get lost frames, automatic stop of recording, or strage bandings and artifaccts. 5- The raw rec module generates ".RAW" files that must be converted to a DNG sequence. For this you need the program "raw2dng". If you are a Mac user there is a user friendly GUI version here: https://bitbucket.org/600dplus/magic-lantern-things/downloads/raw2dng.app.zip 6- You can open the sequence in After Effects or Lightroom, for instance. Davinci Resolve is not able to read sequences that are not CinemaDNG. Let me know if it worked! **** MORE INFO **** *** Cinema 5D guide (for 5D MK3 mostly) : http://www.cinema5d.com/news/?p=17898 *** ML Official Downloads: http://www.magiclantern.fm/download *** Forum Magic Lantern 5D MK2 RAW: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5419.0 *** General Forum ML RAW: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5247 *** Info on RAW post-processing: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5404.0
