In the fall of 2012, TRI Studios in San Rafael, CA hosted the "Race to TRI" contest. Nearly 1000 artists, bands and songwriters submitted for a chance to "Win a Day at TRI Studios" featuring a full multi-track recording session and hi-definition video shoot. Winner also walked away with a TELEFUNKEN M80 Dynamic microphone. After many hours were spent listening to the submission, Bob Weir and the crew at TRI settled on the top 10 entrants and allowed fans to vote. The winning band MERRYGOLD was the fan favorite and was granted a chance to spend the day in the studio. TELEFUNKEN microphones were used exclusively on the Race to TRI recording session and include the C12 on vocals, the ELA M 260s on acoustic guitar, the U47 on upright bass, the M81 on banjo and accordion, and the M80 on snare and vocals. The ELA M 260 TRI-MONO, co-developed with the staff engineers at TRI, is also featured as the permanently installed decca-tree configured room microphones. All the files are clearly labeled in the same format with the source listed first (LEAD VOX, ACOUSTIC, PIANO), followed by the microphone used (C12, AR-51, etc.) These files are available for download to your favorite DAW system in 24-bit WAV format at 44.1k sampling rate. You are welcome to not only audition these files, but to listen to and compare the various "multi-mic'ed" scenarios while you find a textural mix balance that suits your personal sense of aesthetic.
