Description
Jennifer Burney, a President's Postdoctoral Fellow at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, and an affiliate of the Stanford University Program on Food Security and the Environment, studies how two of the largest problems facing society — hunger and climate change — are intertwined. In her Food for Thought lecture, Jennifer talks about how the Green Revolution has addressed and exacerbated these problems in the developing world over the past fifty years and takes a close look at the impacts of contemporary agricultural systems on food security and greenhouse gas emissions. Outreach in Biotechnology's Food for Thought Lecture Series brings together internationally recognized experts to talk about the best (and worst) ways to use biotechnology for food and fuel.
