Mark Darby, certified Ashtanga yoga teacher, 30 year teaching veteran, and a constant seeker of finding energetic flow in every pose, demonstrates Chaturanga Dandasana. He starts with a a forearm balance. For the full pose Darby begins lifting the shoulders to stabilize the upper body to isolate a movement which initiates with the core. Most people use their shoulders to lift up and it can takes doing this hundreds of times to move from the core. It looks simple but it taps into very deep strength. Don’t expect to be able to do this properly at first. Darby leads a 200 hour intensive immersion in Toronto starting in January 2015.
