Air pollution within Nairobi city was 10 times higher than the recommended by the World Health Organisation. This toxicity in the air was likely to cause health risks such as cancers. The World Health Organisation reported that the quality of air around the world had declined by 8% in the last five years, threatening lives, productivity and economies. Air pollution killed an estimated 7 million people, with indoor pollution bearing the greatest responsibility for these deaths.
