Comma Butterfly, Polygonia c-album, caterpillar anchoring itself to a stinging nettle stem and undergoing the process of pupating. The chrysalis resembles a withered leaf. Two or three weeks later the pupal case splits and the butterfly emerges. The species is named for the comma like white marking on the underside of each wing.
