Description

http://www.whistlermuseum.org/ http://blog.whistlermuseum.org/ Original 16 mm film footage of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway train plowing snow outside Rainbow Lodge, winter of 1934-1935. This footage conveys the raw industrial power of an old steam train better than any photo ever could. Sometimes Alta Lake's snowfall was so heavy that they even bogged down the plow trains, so they often had to charge through full steam ahead to keep up their momentum. Check out the crazy man train surfing on top of the train! (note how the burly train-rider chose a sideways, snowboard-style stance as the most stable, or, maybe, the most fun).
