http://music2work2.com Check out - Frustration - http://youtu.be/UXWVaAHbLiI Over 50K views and growing at 2K+ a week! I've been working on this theme for 11 years -- it isn't finished, I don't know if it ever will be -- but this is the best I've got right now. Wendi is my wife -- we met 11 years and 7 months ago and this is her second theme. It first came out in Venice, in the 1 bedroom apartment at the Venetian; she'd go to work and I'd practice all morning, recording from the Kurzweil directly onto cassette tape. After lunch, I'd take a big bowl and spend the afternoon walking the beach and the boardwalk, listening to the morning's work, growing my hair & watching the world go by. After about 3 months of this -- playing for 4 hours a day and then listening to that same 4 hours -- my ears started to change -- I started to hear things very differently. Themes Themes are the root of music2work2 -- they're musical ideas that appear out of nowhere -- I don't sit down & plan to write them -- I just need to be playing. The better player I am, the more room the themes have to work with. Each one is a learning experience and the good ones generally kick my ass. People fascinate me & I often end up associating them themes. Sometimes I'll go looking for a theme with a person in mind, sometimes the theme will come out and I have to work out who and what it's for. There was no mistaking this was Wendi's theme. It is sad, beautiful and incredibly hopeful -- just like my wife when I met her. Structure The original theme starts at 1:47 -- a simple take on Beethoven's moonlight sonata but set up for strings. It's all about the melody which really should be played on a cello. This melancholic but ultimately beautiful theme eventually segues into a far more promising and positive coda which ends the track. Clearly I love my wife and am looking for a happy ending. The first & third variations were developed in the last few months, the opening piece was written over the May bank holiday weekend -- thanks Craig. Video I knew what the video of this piece would be 8 months ago -- a simple slow sunrise -- moving from dark to light. We caught two sunrises from the lighthouse at Byron Bay -- Australia's most eastern point -- but neither time did I manage to remember a tripod. I opted for photo dissolves over shaky video. Quality This was recorded using Reason; I'd love some day to record this in a studio on a decent grand. Likewise -- the strings are synthesized. I'd love to hang out with Zoe Keating and record a version of this -- hell, record a version of anything. Membership / YouTube If you dig the music -- become a member -- I only send a newsletter out when I have published music -- the last one went out in August of last year -- so -- you don't need to worry about spam or me overloading your inbox. My intent is to produce 4 new pieces a year but it's totally theme dependent. I post the development of the pieces regularly on the blog and the really promising ones get cut into video and posted on YouTube. YouTube is where most people listen to music2work2 -- you can stream the playlists from your browser as well as get notified when new development pieces are uploaded by subscribing. Tracks like Frustration and Emma are gaining in popularity. If you're into downloads and having high quality versions of all the pieces actually on your hard drive -- you can become a lifetime member for $15 and download everything I publish until I die.
