In our 17th episode we take a look at Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros during their Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance last week, but find ourselves drawn back to their network television debut from September 4th, 2009. Is it just us, or has the Johnny and June chemistry between singers Alex Ebert and Jade Castrinos cooled somewhat since their Letterman performance over a year ago? Conan O'Brien joins Jack White on stage for a rip snorting version of Eddie Cochran's "Twenty Flight Rock" on the inaugural episode of Conan on November 8th, 2010. Two trade-friendly Queen DVDs came our way this past week, both recorded at London's majestic Hammersmith Odeon in the 1970s. The first is derived from a recent BBC rebroadcast of an Old Grey Whistle Test show in 1975, while the second is a reconstruction of Queen's epic boxing day concert from 1979, which was rolled into the Rock for Kampuchea cause. As if Queen fans didn't have enough to be excited about already, the news that Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing Freddie in a film next year is certainly cause for celebration. We have no doubt he'll nail the portrayal, and have gathered a few other choice Queen moments from the band's heyday, just in case he drops by looking for some inspiration. Toots and the Maytals are wrapping up their 2010 tour, and we look back on the career of these Jamaican reggae legends with a quick video survey that stops in at Glastonbury this your ("Monkey Man") Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come" ("Sweet and Dandy") German TV's Rockpalast ("Country Roads") and Jimmy Fallon last week, where they performed "Pressure Drop". It was during this week in 1967 that David Crosby actually, finally left the Byrds. We dissect the groups all-important appearance at Monterey Pop that year for clues to the dissolution, and come up with his blistering version of "Hey Joe" as exhibit "A".
