At the Rock Ittervoort festival, I had a chance to reconnect with Sun Caged. In their early days, around the release of their debut album, I followed the band, but had lost touch with them. So I missed out on their second album, Artemisia (2007). When I saw the band perform on stage, I was impressed with their music, virtuosity and passion. So I'm happy I got a chance to review their third album, The Lotus Effect, which impressed me as much as the band on stage did. Top class progressive metal from Holland, with a very ambitious part on the album, as the second half of it, some 34 minutes, is one long conceptual piece! But they did a great job, not just on that, but on the whole album. Absolutely a must have if you love prog metal.
