This is a scene from the historical drama The Tudors, where the four men who are falsely accussed of having carnal knowledge of the Queen Anne Boleyn are excecuted. In the order shown here: George Boleyn, Henry Norris, William Brereton and Mark Smeaton. Anne Boleyn locked in a tower, watches as her brother and the other men are executed. Her father is being held in the tower as well, but seemingly brushes off Anne's cries as she witnesses her brothers excecution. The poem being read through voice over is by the poet Thomas Wyatt, who was also arrested for the crimes, but released, most likely because of his friendship with Thomas Cromwell. These scenes can be disturbing because of the blood and gore. Mark Smeaton is unable to walk up to the scaffold because he was tortured into saying that he had been having an affair with the Queen. The ending, him closing his eyes and sighing, no matter how many times I see it, it breaks my heart. The Poem as read by Thomas Wyatt: These bloody days have broken my heart, My lust, my youth did them depart. For your wit alone many men would bemoan, And since it is so, many still cry aloud. It is a great loss that you are dead and gone, A time you had above your poor degree, Before whereof your friends may well bemoan, A rotten twig upon so high a tree has slipped your hold And you are dead and gone. These bloody days have broken my heart, My lust, my youth did them depart. And blind desire of ambitious souls, Who haste to climb seeks to revert and about the throne The thunder rolls.
