Description
http://Zombie-Popcorn.com This week we delve into the world of corporal punishment and the tacit approval it gets from some religious groups. All thanks to the massively popular work of Michael and Debi Pearl, To Train Up a Child there seem to have been numerous cases of aggravated child abuse, some even ending up in the death of the child. The Pearls have described their methods as "the same principles the Amish use to train their stubborn mules." One such case is the death of Hana Williams, a 13 year old girl who was found dead and emaciated because she was left to sleep in an unheated barn; she died of hypothermia. Another such case is the horrifying account of the death of Lydia_Schatz at the hands of her adoptive parents. This topic was precipitated by Jason's post on our facebook wall about two parents who forced their adopted daughter to live in a chicken coop and wear a shock collar. We deal with the biblical origins of such beliefs and the rationalization of such abuses. We also deal with a new study which claims that atheists have the lowest "retention rate" when compared to other religious denominations. Though, the numbers seem to be skewed when compared to the 2008 American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS) which showed that self-identified Atheists and Agnostics grew by nearly one percent between 1990 and 2008 while the religious "nones" went from 8.2% to 15%, making the irreligious the fastest growing demographic in American religious society. As always we want to know your thoughts! You can always contact us at nonreligious@zombie-popcorn.com, like us on Facebook / Google+ or call the ZPN hotline at (757) 337-2195.
